Ensuring a good night's sleep for your baby is crucial for their well-being and your peace of mind. Establishing healthy sleep habits early on is key to a happy and rested baby. In this blog post, we'll explore our bedtime routine with our 3-month-old, who has been sleeping 10-12 hours since 2 months old. We will also review a curated selection of recommended products to make bedtime easier and promote peaceful sleep for your baby. From soothing sleep aids to cozy essentials, these items are here to assist you in creating a tranquil sleep environment for your little one.

  • Warm Bath. We always start our bedtime routine with a warm bath. We transfer bath time into a calming prelude to sleep with lavender-scented products. The Honest Company offers gentle, natural, tear-free, and hypoallergenic products with a calming lavender scent. These products not only cleanse but also create a serene environment, signaling to your baby that it's time to unwind and sleep peacefully.

  • Apply lavender lotion and magnesium balm. After bath time, we dry off our baby and apply honest lavender lotion to her body. We also apply magnesium balm to her feet and upper back. Magnesium, an essential mineral, promotes better sleep by relaxing muscles and regulating neurotransmitters. Zarbee's Baby Massage Balm is a calming solution enriched with shea butter, lavender, and chamomile to soothe your baby. Pamper your little one with a massage as the natural ingredients promote relaxation and ensure a peaceful night's sleep.

  • Large warm bottle. Before bed, we give our baby warm bottle of expressed breastmilk. While our baby is breastfed throughout the day, my husband gives her a bottle before bedtime to promote bonding between father and daughter and to ensure she is fully satiated.

  • Sound machine. While our baby is drinking her bottle we start to set a calming mood with paying relaxing sounds. The Hatch Rest Baby Sound Machine offers a variety of features such as white noise, customizable night light, music and nursery stories, sleep training, and an alarm clock. It grows with your child and can be easily controlled through their app on your phone.

  • Swaddles: I tested six different swaddle brands when my daughter was born, and the Happiest Baby 5-Second Swaddles worked the best for us. Other swaddles didn't hold up as she grew stronger and would easily escape, causing her to startle herself awake. The Happiest Baby swaddle prevented her from escaping due to the flap between her legs and the sturdy arm band across her chest. The zipper also helped keep everything in place. As she grew, we could also let her sleep with her arms out once her startle reflex subsided. This swaddle grows with your child and comes in bundle packs with different sizes. I highly recommend this brand. Now, let's talk about the Nested Bean Zen One swaddle. It's designed for babies aged 3+ months and has a gentle weight to it. Like the Happiest Baby swaddle, it can be adjusted for the baby's preference of keeping their arms in or out. It also allows for a relaxed arm position or by the baby's side. Many people find that the lightly weighted design helps with self-soothing.

  • Crib soother. After transferring our baby to her bed while she’s still awake we utilize the Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother. This is a must-have for a peaceful sleep routine when your baby’s old enough for their crib. This crib toy and sound machine combine captivating underwater scenes with soothing melodies, creating a serene cocoon for your baby. As your little one drifts off to the gentle tunes and mesmerizing visuals, the Sea Dreams Soother becomes the perfect sleep companion, fostering a calm and restful environment night after night.

  • Self soothing aid. Ewan Deluxe with Shush is a cutting-edge, washable baby sleep aid designed to soothe infants into a peaceful slumber. Equipped with a cry sensor, it intelligently detects a baby's cries and responds with comforting sounds, including a gentle shushing feature. This is a reliable tool for creating a calming sleep environment for when your little one needs a little back up with self soothing.

  • Huckleberry app to create a sleep routine. This app helps parents manage their baby's care, including sleep, feeding, diaper changes, and pumping. It has a feature called “SweetSpot” that provides a structured sleep routine and alerts parents when their baby should go to sleep. This helps prevent the baby from becoming over or under tired.

Motherhood is already difficult, and it becomes even more challenging when you're exhausted. These tips aim to assist you in improving your baby's bedtime routine and establishing a calm sleep environment. These tips are what extended our little one's sleep but results may vary. Feel free to share your own experiences and tricks in the comments, fostering a supportive community of shared knowledge among parents.
